Part 2 Of My Story
In 1983, I met many people who, like me, are physically and challenged, at a camp in Jacksonville, Illinois by Lake Jacksonville. The camp is called Camp Courage, and every year, I'd spend a week there. I did that for 21 years.
In 1999 and 2011, I lost two best friends who were like my brothers, and we were like the heart, soul and spirit of Camp Courage as male campers. Jason, who died in 1999, had muscular dystrophy. He was the true spirit of camp because he had taught the camp, especially me, to never stop giving up on a dream, or something like that. Dean, who died in 2011, had spina bifida. He was also the heart of the camp, and showed campers how to be truly passionate about something that you love most.
Then, there is me, being all three of those things, and showing campers how not to quit your dreams. Teaching them to follow your heart, and reaching goals in whatever you want to do in life. You have to have "The Eye of the Tiger", and "2 Legit 2 Quit" attitudes! In the final years of going to Camp Courage, I have met two campers who touched my heart, and one of campers' mothers, asked me to help her with guidance on raising a child with cerebral palsy. Then, I started to visit them and helping them out, as they live in the St. Louis area. I figured that is my way of helping the disabled community. Then, I met someone who is like my mini me. He made me realize what it is important in life. So I decided to create Support ADA Changes, and it took me few years to create it.
Part 3 is coming soon!
